bowl of soul

Isaiah and I did today's check-up at Club Sutter. The clinic was super-busy with lots of sick kids - which is always so sad. Isaiah "looked great" and all his numbers are strong.

Afterwards, we went to Tupelo's where the little guy got a Jones Cream Soda and dad thoroughly enjoyed a Bowl of Soul (which must be experienced in order to truly appreciate). During our first stay in the hospital, I would take my few minute break most days to walk to this little shop. I fell in love with this amazing chamomile tea/steamed milk/honey and cinnamon creation. Not only is it a perfectly delicious "comfort food," but the drinking experience itself feels almost prayerful - partly because it requires both hands; partly because I was praying so desperately in those early days. Both as a tea-drinker and as a pastor, I recommend it whole-heartedly.

pirates and mermaids

Isaiah had a great time celebrating
Sienna's 8th birthday. Auntie Cita
disguised him so well, no one knew who
"that kid" was until they got really
close to his face. He loved every minute
of his party pirate alias.

The highlight of his first week of homeschool
was getting his very own library card.
His smile was so beautiful as he proudly chose
two books on tape, used the self checkout computer all by himself
and walked out with his new treasures in hand.

Thank you for praying for him!

one step closer...

Thanks very much for praying for Isaiah today during his fast and spinal tap. He was a champ, as always. We talked this morning about training our wills to say "shhh" to our stomachs. He seemed very strong all day. Sienna came along and cared for her brother well, as usual. We're grateful for her caring heart. Carmen and I feel that special kind of tired that always comes after a day at the hospital. There's a lot of sadness there. Grateful for you all and longing for that Great Day, Nathan (for all of us)

alabama

We've just wrapped-up a wonderful weekend in Birmingham with dear friends and mentors, Lyle and Mary. Their church, Christ the King, has embraced Isaiah over the many months and miles and invited us to spend the weekend with them. Their generosity and support were overwhelming. After worshipping with them, they threw a combined birthday party for Isaiah and Sienna.

We enjoyed many hours in L and M's pool, lots of time to catch up and share stories, GREAT food, and even a ride in Lyle's WWII jeep (much to Isaiah's delight).

Many thanks, Lyle, Mary, and Christ the King Church!

he's six!

Isaiah had a full, fun day with lots of visitors, the surprise arrival of his cousins, and dinner with family. Check out the Tatooine cake made by Carmen! Celebrating six years of life and an amazing little boy! Peace to you.

900

Yesterday Isaiah had a checkup and CBC (complete blood count). His ANC was 900 and since his tummy is still bothering him, the doctor ordered a test to make sure he does not have a bacterial infection in his stomach. We are praying for no infection and for insight into the cause of his upset stomach.
Some of you have asked about his appointment with the orthopedic specialist. Thank you for your prayers. It has been worked out.
Isaiah's fractures are stable.
This is very good news.
No matter how many times we say it, we mean it with all our hearts: Thank you for reading the blog, supporting Isaiah, loving our family and praying for us as we continue this journey!
