fasting monday

We're already due for Isaiah's every-twelve-week spinal-tap and treatment. Carmen, Isaiah, and I will spend most of tomorrow at Sutter while Sienna spends time with her cousins. The most difficult part of these days, for Isaiah, is the required fast. Thank you to all of you who have already shared with us your plans to fast with him. The kids had a lot of fun dressing up on Halloween. They spent the evening at an Emmaus-sponsored Great Pumpkin Festival at Foskett Ranch School. Sienna dressed up as "Lucy" from the Narnia Chronicles; Isaiah was Batman. He told Carmen, "Mom, when we were going out to the car I saw a bad guy. But I knew I would get in trouble if I walked across the parking lot by myself so I couldn't go get him."

We've just been cruising along the last couple weeks. Sienna is doing really well in soccer. She scored after a scoreless first period on Saturday and her team went on to win 6-1. Isaiah seems content to play outside as much as possible. His favorite part of home school, he says, is "recess." Any additional structure is resisted these days. He's still fasting 3 hours a day in connection with his daily chemo. This continues to be a hassle from his point of view. It seems he's always hungry at the wrong times. Overall, he's feeling strong. And we're grateful. Tomorrow (Wednesday) we're back to Sutter for our regular check up. This weekend Mom's away so the three of us will play (and have lots of dessert). Thanks for checking-in on us!

I kissed Isaiah goodbye yesterday as I left for work and said, as I often do, "Have a good day." His response came quick and confident: "I will!"

It was the way he said it that I want to remember: so sure, so full of anticipation, like he was proclaiming his decision to experience the wonder of every moment.

Isaiah was at the clinic today for s0me some Vincristine and a blood check. He's feeling good, which is always remarkable to me. Friends who have had Vincristine tell me it's brutal stuff. Isaiah seems tired but happy. We're about to watch a movie together but wanted to thank all of you for your strong support of our family.

All week, Isaiah has been waiting to hear if his counts are back up again. This morning we went to Sutter for a check up and blood count and received good news: his counts are up to 1100. Thank you for your prayers and messages. We love to hear from all of you.
